MEET THE TEAM OF INSTRUCTORS AT PILATES ON CORYDON:
Jaime Angus graduated from the University of Manitoba in 2000 with a Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation in Physiotherapy. Her early career focused on pediatric therapy at the Children’s Hospital working in burns, plastics and orthopedics. In 2001, her focus switched to adult orthopedics in private practice working with a variety of work and sports related conditions, as well coordinating rehabilitative reconditioning programs. Since 2002, she has pursued considerable postgraduate training in the treatment of incontinence, prolapse and pelvic and low back pain secondary to pelvic floor dysfunction. She is qualified to perform internal pelvic examination/treatment and integrates the retraining of the pelvic floor musculature as part of her holistic approach to global health. Jaime advocates to reduce the occurrence of incontinence and pelvic pain in women through early intervention prenatally and post-partum, and speaks regularly in the community to women and to professionals to increase awareness about these topics. As a component of the women’s health services she provides, Jaime also develops exercise programs for prenatal and post-partum women as well as those with osteopenia and osteoporosis. Jaime is also a Pilates instructor working with individuals recovering from cancer or from various injuries, as well as with the healthy population.
Lisa Mills-Hutton has interests ranging from being a dance teacher, a Stott Pilates instructor, a recreational runner, a Bachelor of Commerce graduate and a physiotherapist. Since an early age she has been passionate about health, fitness, dance and the benefits of physiotherapy. With over 20 years of dance training in various styles like ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical and Spanish Classical. In 1997, she began teaching and choreographing dance and loves sharing her knowledge and passion with dancers. The many years of dancing and teaching enhanced her interest in body awareness, effective exercise and rehabilitation. In 2001, she graduated from the Asper School of Business, worked in Taiwan for 1 year teaching Business English and returned to Canada and worked as a Foreign Exchange Broker for 3 years. In 2004 she began taking Pilates classes and certified as a Stott Pilates Mat Instructor. In 2006 she went back to school to become a physiotherapist and graduated from University of Manitoba in 2009 with a Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation in Physiotherapy. Since graduating she has worked in private practice physiotherapy. She enjoys treating a wide variety of orthopedic injuries and neurological conditions, but has taken a special in interest in chronic pain management and treatment, stroke and brain injury rehabilitation, Multiple Sclerosis rehabilitation and rehabilitation for dancers. She is certified in acupuncture and has taken several post-graduate courses in myofascial release, movement dysfunction, neurological rehabilitation and chronic pain management. Her combined knowledge of dance, Pilates and physiotherapy has persuaded her to offer rehabilitation specific for dancers; providing dance screening, rehabilitation and injury prevention for dancers of all ages and levels. Lisa looks forward to teaching her pilates classes and 20/20/20 class each week.
Heather Schiller is a dance instructor, choreographer, and certified Stott Pilates instructor in both the mat and reformer curriculum. Dance has been her main passion in life for the past 24 years so physical health and wellness has always been a priority. Heather came across Pilates in 2009 while dealing with a recurring injury resulting from her professional dance and musical theatre career. She found that incorporating Pilates in her daily routine alongside treatment, her injury improved dramatically and her body gained strength and balance. These positive results and new knowledge of the importance of muscular balance inspired Heather to become certified herself, and help others improve their lives with the benefits Pilates provides. Heather works with clients in both the rehabilitative stage as well as the healthy populations including her fit young dance students and even her parents. Heather continues to further her education around health and wellness and recently became a Certified Holistic Health Coach through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. She looks forward to amalgamating her dance background and Pilates with Health Coaching, creating programs to positively impact the lives of many.
Leanne Veale is a dancer, ballet teacher, choreographer and Pilates Instructor. She is a graduate of the University of Winnipeg, as well as a graduate of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Professional Teaching Program. Her interest in Pilates began after she injured herself while working towards her Advanced 2 Cecchetti Ballet Exam. After some doubt, she tried Pilates and discovered its abilities to help heal and rebalance her body. As a result of her successful rehab, (with help from physiotherapists at Donna Sarna Physiotherapy,) Leanne decided to certify herself as a Pilates mat and Reformer instructor to see if she could help others discover the power of Pilates. In 2012 she became a certified Stott Pilates Instructor and has taught at the Wellness Institute, the Reh-Fit Centre, Pilates St. Vital and Pilates Manitoba. She continues to further her education as an instructor with many courses and workshops designed to expand her use of props and her ability to work with injured clients and special populations. Currently, she runs the ballet program at Studio One School of Performing Arts. In her spare time, she dances with Prairie Dancers and takes Aerial Dance classes. She also enjoys acting and filmmaking, which she majored in at the University of Winnipeg. In 2013 she was thrilled to accept the position as Manager of Pilates on Corydon and looks forward to teaching her Rehab clients and classes each week.
Leslee Watt holds both a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (2001) and a Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation in Physiotherapy (2007) from the University of Manitoba. Since graduating, she has worked mainly in private clinic settings and at Concordia Hospital in the joint-replacement program. In March of 2009 Leslee traveled to India to attend the Moksha Yoga teacher training where she discovered her true passion within yoga. Since then, Leslee has created her own system of therapeutic yoga, which she has coined as "PhysioLogic Yoga”. Her programs include Yoga for Fibromyalgia, Yoga for Neck and Shoulder Tension, Yoga for Low Back Pain and Restorative Yoga which focuses on reducing the effects of stress on pain and disease. Leslee believes that therapeutic yoga and mindfulness can be a powerful tool in the promotion of heath and in the prevention/treatment of disease and therefore complements her physiotherapy practice with her knowledge of yoga whenever possible.
Mike Wheeler graduated from the University of Manitoba in 2009 with a Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation in Physiotherapy. Prior to working at Donna Sarna Physiotherapy, Mike spent just over 3 years in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, where he worked as a community therapist. There he gained experience in many areas of physiotherapy with clients of all ages, which include orthopedic and sports injuries, geriatric and neurological rehabilitation and pediatric developmental. Mike’s primary area of experience is in orthopedics and has attended many post grad courses and training to build on his assessment, manual therapy and treatment skills, which include the Mulligan Concept, muscle energy techniques, acupuncture, and therapeutic taping. Mike will continue to advance his orthopedic skills as well as gain experience and advanced training for pediatric physiotherapy. This past year he attended a very informative course on myofascial release for children and infants. Mike also enjoys teaching the Wednesday morning Circuit Class and loves coming up with creative and challenging circuits for the participants.
Heather Wittenberg graduated in 2008 from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation in Physical Therapy. She started her career in the hospital working with cardiac, geriatric and post-operative patients. Heather transitioned to orthopaedics and hand therapy in 2010 and discovered a real passion for hands-on therapy. Since then, she has taken several courses including courses in orthopaedics and myofascial release. After taking a few myofascial release courses and getting great results with patients, Heather decided to take an intensive training session in Sedona Arizona and worked with MFR founder John Barnes. Believing in the importance of teaching people how to maintain their health, tune into their bodies and know how to prevent injury, she has developed a myofascial stretch class at the clinic. Heather is an advocate for preventative healthcare and enjoys helping people take the proper steps to living a healthier, active lifestyle.
